A number of the tunes this reminds me of come from the solo efforts of folks better known for their work with more “serious” bands (Nick Mason, Ringo Starr, etc.), and it supports an opinion I’ve long held about humor in music: it’s a lot funnier when there’s a high degree of musicianship.
This song definitely has that. I mean, you stopped short of challenging yourself to the degree of, say, a Frank Zappa or Dread Zeppelin, but all of the instruments are handled masterfully. The lyrics are a joy and their delivery is spot-on.
Even when the songs wafts into slick Prog territory, it’s still set to that almost Eastern European-sounding beat. As Homer Simpson observed, “Everything’s funnier when you speed it up.”
I think that’s the mistake people who hate Prog are usually making: they take it more seriously than the artists do.
The fun you obviously had in making this is infectious!
